So you thought you had the perfect plan...except it didn't pan out the way you thought it would. In other words, your big plan flopped. Now what? As frustrating as it is, it’s not the end of the road. In this episode, I show you how to get back on track without losing momentum.
Here’s the thing - a “failed” plan is an opportunity to step back, evaluate, and realign. This process of failing and realigning is the exact process that leads to success.
This is what I recently had to do - after excitedly relaunching this podcast with a "fail proof" plan, my master plan flopped. Instead of getting out weekly episodes like I wanted to, I ended up with a gigantic gap in between episodes. Turns out, the plan was only fail proof on paper 😅.
It was frustrating and my inner critic took no time to start smack talking, but I got a handle on things with a simple evaluation process. As I completed the evaluation, clarity shone through: a plan failing doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It’s one of those insights that’s laughably obvious when you are looking at a friend’s flops, but easy to lose sight of when you’re dealing with your own flop. Oftentimes, the mind spirals into the thousand ways in which you have failed, why you will continue to fail, and/or how you’re a failure. Though these thoughts are your mind’s way to trying to keep you safe, they are unhelpful and they hold you back from trying again.
In this episode, I'll walk you through how to evaluate a project/endeavor so that you can ditch the spiral of self-doubt and use setbacks as useful information, making your next move feel clear and doable.
If you’re tired of feeling discouraged when things don’t work out as planned, and you want a lighter, more productive approach than letting your inner critic drag you down, hit play! 🎧
Let’s drop the drama and self-judgement, and find clarity, realign your efforts, and get you moving forward again with ease.
Key Nuggets
Detach from the Drama - Separate your self-worth from the outcome of the project and consider the outcome to simply be data. Every flop or win is feedback, giving you the clarity you need to realign and move forward. To help with this, I lean on a quote from Marie Forleo “I win or learn, but I never lose”.
Regular Check-Ins Are Key - Don’t just evaluate at the end of a project—check in at regular milestones so that if you’re headed in the wrong direction, you can course correct.
